Any trimmer clipper will come with at least a few guards and may offer several. These attachments are also known as comb guards, guides, or spacers. By using a guard on the trimmer, one can keep the hair length consistent. These guards are often numbered, with the shortest being a 0 or 1 and the longest going up to 10. Some sources indicate that the numbers correspond to eighths of an inch; for example, a size-one blade would yield a hair length of one-eighth inch. Unfortunately, numbering systems are not standard across manufacturers, so the manufacturer's charts will need to be consulted before purchasing. However, the usual measurements of baby hair clipper guards goes from almost bald to an inch or so.
